Love of the Lotus
Details & Dimensions
Embroidered are lotus leaves and a lotus seed pod. "On the Love of the Lotus" is the name of a revolutionary classical Chinese essay where it is written: "I love the lotus because while growing from mud, it is unstained". The lotus has since become a metaphor for honesty and a noble character, symbolic of maintaining one's purity even if immersed in an atmosphere of filth and corruption. In brilliant blues, the iridescence of the colors are beautifully rendered while the use of 1/4 silk thread brings out the detail in the lotus leaves and the contrasting background.
