This vase was a royal porcelain in the palace of an 18th century Qing Dynasty emperor. In Chinese legend, the dragon is a sacred, ancient animal with supernatural abilities and is considered the king of all beasts. A symbol for power, strength and good luck, the dragon is considered to bring the most fortune of all the zodiac symbols. The clouds and waves are a metaphor for a capacity for tolerance as large as the ocean.
