Originally a brush art painting by the Chinese artist Shan Chuan, this embroidered piece features two sparrows alongside a persimmon tree. Sparrows symbolize good fortune and the Chinese character for persimmon shares a phonetic similarity with another character that can mean "the best of luck in everything." Together they are a fitting representation for the artist's wishes for the coming new year, written on the right side of the piece. Carefully stitched to capture each brushstroke of the original painting, the threads bring out the stunning colors and contrasting styles between the robust vibrance of the persimmons and the delicate features of the sparrows.
